Loom_00

By Nicolas Rueda and Katherine Romero

The Artists Nicolas Rueda and Katherine Romero has created a hacked textile creation device. A small loom has been hacked and connected tothe computer through the circuit of a keyboard. The device registers and makes visible gestures, times and repetitions that occur during the interaction of the weaver with the loom, and that are not evident on the final textile. Part of the yarn that is used is made with Conductive and organic materials that has to be previously prepared. Spinning both fibers together by hand makes it possible to have different and random connections. Due to the use of different spinning techniques, and because of the hand-made yarn, the user configures the output in voluntaryand involuntary ways, before the interaction. This past time comes again as the user weaves and the screen shows unexpected computer behaviors. The final output is a text written by the Artist and the machine.
